NEW JERSEY served our great Republic during World War II, serving initially as the FIFTH Fleet flagship for Admiral Raymond Spruance in early 1944 and as THIRD Fleet flagship for Admiral William Halsey later that year. Reactivated for the Vietnam War, NEW JERSEY conducted numerous naval gunfire missions in support of actions ashore. Commissioned again in 1982, she served worldwide as the centerpiece of a Battleship Surface Action Group in Mediterranean and Pacific Ocean deployments.
